Campaign Statement, Public Affairs Director – Neile Weissman

If re-elected, I will safeguard, and seek to expand, access to facilities the Club needs to provide activities for the members. And, in partnership with cycling organizations across the region, I will advocate for legislation that enhances cyclist access and safety.
I will build visibility of the Club vis-a-vis the public-at-large and strengthen ties with organizations whose work furthers our mission to grow the cycling community. Examples below.
Central Park
In 2014, following the cycling-related deaths of two pedestrians, campaigned against a City Council bill that would have speed-limited Park Drives to 15 mph. And built support for the Central Park Protocol to maintain member access for group training while prioritizing pedestrian safety.
In 2025, drafted the Club’s letter to the CP Conservancy protesting installation of 3” high speed-bumps at pedestrian crossings—citing federal guidelines that they likely cause cyclists to crash.
Prospect Park
Participate in the Prospect Park Drive Task Force and, in collaboration with Kissena Cycling, expanded the Central Park Protocol to include Prospect Park.
Bikes-on-Trains
Negotiated and maintain NYCC’s group travel arrangements with Metro North, Long Island Railroad and NJ Transit in order to facilitate the SIG/STS, Club Weekends and hundreds of member-led rides each year.
Legislation
Built a coalition of two hundred organizations and elected officials to support of Stop as Yield legislation which enable cyclists to treat stop lights as stop signs and stop signs as yields. Outreach included an op-ed in StreetsBlog.
Infrastructure
Attracted a coalition of two hundred organizations and elected to call for modern bikeways across the George Washington Bridge. Outreach included op-eds in StreetsBlog and NJ Spotlight and appearing as a guest on the Brian Lehrer Show.
Co-led the campaign to connect the North-South County Trailway through Van Cortlandt Park.
Outreach
Designed and administrate the Club’s Roll it Forward! program which distributes ENY funds to local organizations whose work furthers the Club’s mission to grow and diversify the cycling community.
Developed a ride training series with Black Girls Do Bike.

Press Relations
Got NYCC featured in articles in NY Times, Times of London and Bicycling.
Club Weekends
In addition to organizing a hundred rides per year, I run the New Paltz and Southampton Weekends— leveraging support from local elected officials to create working relationships with SUNY administrators.
Other
Before NYCC, I worked on some four hundred Off-Off Broadway productions before starting my own theater which drew regular reviews in the dailies and theatrical trades and funding from the NY City Department of Cultural Affairs and NY State Council on the Arts.
Was Sales Manager at Tekserve, NYC’s largest Apple Reseller, where I developed the sales model that would be replicated by the Apple Store.
Formed Complete George to advocate for the growth of recreational cycling.
