This week, lawmakers in Albany are meeting to decide which bills will move forward this session.  So we need supporters of Stop as Yield (Idaho Stop) S639 | A7071 to make four quick calls to Leadership.

☎️ Call Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins: (518) 455-2585

☎️ Call Senator Liz Krueger: (518) 455-2297

☎️ Call Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie: (518) 455-3791

☎️ Call Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz: (518) 455-5965

Sample Script

“I’m calling to ask [the elected official] to advance Senate Bill S639 [or] Assembly Bill A7071, Stop as Yield, to a floor vote.  No one should be ticketed or criminally summonsed for common, safe cycling behavior.  Thank you.”

Back Story (NYC)

In April 2025, the New York City Police Department (“NYPD”) began handing out criminal summons to cyclists for traffic violations. Sadly, NYC cyclists have long been singled out for enforcement, getting ticketed seven times as often as motorists.  Black and brown cyclists in particular have been targeted.

Passing Stop as Yield, which lets cyclists treat red lights as stop signs, and stop signs as yields, will reduce opportunities for overzealous enforcement, pretextual stops, and the criminalization of common, safe cycling behavior.
