How You Can Help

Please take a few minutes to email the Port Authority and Governor to widen the GWB paths as part of the upcoming reconstruction.  Links and sample statements below.  Thanks!

Sample statement to the Port Authority:

I call upon the the Port Authority to widen of the paths on the George Washington Bridge to comply with national standards as part of the upcoming $1.9 billion reconstruction.

This is for the safety of all Bridge users as well as to support the growth of cycling across the region.

Sample statement to Governor Andrew Cuomo – important!

I am writing to ask that you prevail upon the Port Authority to widen the narrow, overcrowded paths on the the George Washington Bridge to comply with national standards as part of the upcoming $1.9 billion reconstruction.

This is both for the safety of all Bridge users as well as to support the growth of cycling across the region.

Without the GWB, NYC-based cyclists have no recreational cycling facilities not shared with pedestrians. And cycle tourism in the Lower-Mid Hudson Valley is worth $100 million per year.  Both constituencies will be heavily impacted if GWB ceases to function as a cycling facility.

As a cyclist, I applaud your efforts to fund the Empire State Trail, but as a downstate resident who accesses the Bridge on a regular basis, I ask you to commit to wider GWB paths as part of any program to expand New York’s cycling infrastructure.

Sample statement to Governor Chris Christie – important!

I am writing to ask that you prevail upon the Port Authority to widen the the paths on the the George Washington Bridge to comply with national standards as part of the upcoming $1.9 billion reconstruction.

This is both for the safety of all Bridge users as well as to support the growth of cycling across the region. Cycle tourism in Bergen, worth $50 million per year, will see a decline if the GWB ceases to function as a cycling facility.
